Gilda Snowden's work is connected to the tradition of Abstract Expressionism, to urban realities, and to the depiction of a wide range of emotional experience. Snowden's works are created with a respect for the depth of emotion and for the craft. Her formal training is evident in every gesture. Snowden was trained at Wayne State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1977, and on a graduate professional scholarship, completed her Master of Fine Arts. Since her first one person exhibit in 1981 at Detroit's Willis Gallery, Gilda Snowden has been active in many art related capacities. Her work has been collected by The Detroit Institute of Arts, Michigan Bell Telephone Company, Dayton Hudson Corporation and United American Healthcare Corporation.
Gilda Snowden is a curator, an art critic, and an art teacher. An art teacher since 1979, she is currently Professor of Fine Art at the Center for Creative Studies, College of Art and Design in Detroit, Michigan. |
