Marcia Freedman maintains a studio in the city of Detroit, close to the cultural center. She culminated her studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, with a Master of Fine Arts.
Her interest in art as a field was encouraged by family who were involved in architecture, textiles, painting, and art history. During graduate school, her work was influenced by music and dance forms whose directions and movement permeate her work.
Marcia’s work has been exhibited in Michigan and out of state. Exhibition venues include the Dennos Museum Center, Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City, Michigan, the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio, the South Bend Regional Art Museum, South Bend, Indiana, the Stedman Gallery, Rutgers Campus, Camden, New Jersey, the Karen Lynne Gallery, Galleria Center, Boca Raton, Florida, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago Gallery, Chicago, Illinois and the Gwenda Jay Gallery, Chicago, Illinois.
Public collections include the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan and the Dennos Museum Center, Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City, Michigan.
Corporate collections include Ernst & Young, Detroit, Michigan and MGM Casino also in Detroit.
Marcia taught art at the high school level in the Detroit Public School system. After leaving the public school system, she taught at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. Currently she is a full time studio artist. |
